As someone who is not a big fan of action and romance, I was very surprised to find an incredible interest in the newly released movie starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, The Fall Guy. The Fall Guy is a movie about the relationship between former camera operator and now director Jodie Morerno, and stuntman performer Colt Seavers. They not only battle with Colt solving a mystery of the actor that he is serving as a stuntman for, Tom Ryder, but solve the mystery of the falling out of Colt and Jodie as Colt suffers a devastating accident.

Throughout the movie, I kept in mind some points that I really loved, with the main thing being the comedy that is executed perfectly throughout the entire film. Colt Seavers gives a lot of thumbs up that would later be used as he is being beaten up by Jodie while she didn’t know who he was since he was in a costume. I relatively also enjoyed the relationship between Jodie and Colt as their chemistry was impeccable, and truthfully better than any other action/romance movie. The cameo that was presented at the end of the movie was also incredibly funny as his name was mentioned once throughout the movie by a single sticky note.

With my enjoyment of the movie, I was surprised to find that it was sadly one of the under-receiving movies as of right now. This was discussed by Denis Villnueve, the director of the top box office performing movies, Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two. Although Villenueve acknowledges the milestone they reached, Box Office being almost four times the budget for the movie, Villenueve also discussed the negative effect it had. Movies currently released in theaters likeChallengers directed by Luca Guadagnino, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes directed by Wes Ball, and many more have underperformed as of recently. Denis Villenueve wishes for people to watch these performances, so they can surpass the current box office for Dune: Part Two.

Watching Dune: Part Two, I can see the appreciation that it has received. However, 2024 had other incredible films that I wish would have the same appreciation, such as The Fall Guy. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's dedication to playing their characters is what I loved. It has also made me consider a lot of what I specifically want to do in the film industry, which would be a camera operator while still directing movies that could be just like this one, if not more in relation to lessons learned throughout life.
