Finals are right around the corner and the school year is about to end. For many people, including me, finals can be a very stressful time. I have some strategies that help me de-stress before and after my finals.

Getting good grades is something that almost every person, whether they are in High School or in College, has to worry about. Final tests are often a big percentage of final grades, so understandably, finals can bring in a great deal of anxiety. It can be very easy to get caught up in the chaos but I have some things I do that always help me get through them and realize they really are just tests. I find that changing my mindset can be impactful when it comes to worrying. Of course, it is normal to be nervous. It is a sign that you care about what you are doing. But usually, if you are prepared and have put in a lot of work, there is nothing else you can do. Over-worrying can certainly happen, so it is good to find strategies that can help you stop worrying.

Another thing I like to think about is the relief of finally being done. Even if the grade is not as good as I would have hoped, it is not the end of the world. In the long run, one bad test is not the worst thing that will happen in life and it is not a reflection of you as a person. Lastly, the thing I like to think of most to get me through the final stretch of the school year is to plan what I will do when school is out. After finals, plan something fun or relaxing to help you recover from the mental strain and stress. Summer has always been my absolute favorite season because it really gives me some free time to get away, and not worry about everything I normally have to worry about during the school year.

Finals can be hard and immensely stressful, but by reframing my point of view on them and planning things to do after, I don’t feel so anxious before and during those last few weeks of school. I have always been a big fan of school, but no matter how much you love school, it is nice to get a break, especially after a long week of taking tests.
